The Steak index shows the cost of a 200g Fillet steak in different countries.
The focus today is on the cost of steak in the USA, it has increased by R1.66 since last week this is due to the rand depreciating against the US Dollar and passing the R15/$ mark. If the rand continues losing its value it would cost more rands to buy a 200g steak in the USA. You would be better of packing your own steak in a ‘skhaftin’ if you are travelling to the USA.
The average cost of steak on the African continent has increased by R 4.26 to R169.40 since last week. The price of steak in South Africa at R 162.90 makes it the 8th most affordable steak on the continent with the most affordable steak being in Zambia.
